Mose Allison recorded other versions of the song "The Seventh Son" but to my mind none to equal this one. I no longer have a turntable, but I would have bought the CD just to hear that one song. That the CD has a rich list has others, such as the memorable "If You Live" plus a long list of delicious instrumental numbers as well, makes this one /5(6).

When Mose Allison recorded his six early albums for Prestige, he was best-known as a bop-based pianist who occasionally sang. This single CD (which reissues in full Young Man Mose and Creek Bank) has 15 instrumentals including a rare appearance by Allison on trumpet ("Stroll") but it is his five typically ironic vocals that are most memorable, particularly Allison's classic "The Seventh Son" and Price: $

One of Mose 's best early albums – even though he hardly gets a chance to sing on it! The album features some great work by Allison 's trio of the time – Addison Farmer on bass and Ronnie Free on drums – simple piano-driven groovers, performed with a slight gutbuckety approach, and lots of sweet down home soul. Mose sings a bit on the classic "Seventh Son", a groover that's kept him.

I've love Mose Allison's music ever since I bought "Creek Bank" not long after it was released in Then I got "I Don't Worry About a Thing" in I was sold on his wonderful jazz, songwriting, and voice. It's the perfect music for a lazy summer afternoon/5(6).

An all-instrumental set from Mose Allison – one that drops out his familiar jazz vocals, and really brings a nice focus to his energy on the keys of the piano! Given that Mose really got his start as a sideman in other combos during the 50s, the selection's no surprise – and if you've only heard Allison's better-known numbers with singing, you'll really be floored here at his.
